About the Artist

Heidi Huett - Biography

Heidi Denison Huett is an Ellicott City, Maryland-based artist who paints both en plein air and in the studio.  She paints primarily in oils, but is also experienced with watercolors, acrylics, and has created murals in public spaces.

As a lover of the outdoors, Heidi paints all subjects found in nature.  The emotion of early-day light skimming across a beautiful landscape is something that simply can’t be outdone, according to Huett.  She maintains that interesting and captivating compositions can be found across a wide range of subjects from close-up images of a leaf and shadow to a far-away vista of mountains.  Creating a dynamic composition is all in seeing the patterns contained in nature and bringing them to life on the canvas.

Her recent style can be described as impressionistic-realism while older pieces are highly realistic.

Heidi is largely self-taught.  Originally from Dover, Ohio, she learned art foundations in high school, but has more than forty years of painting experience.  She loves to paint alongside fellow artists and share and learn from one another as she feels we can all help one another grow.

Heidi participates in numerous plein air events and studio shows where she has earned many awards.

In addition to painting, Heidi is a veteran of the US Army, a former Maryland public school teacher, and a retiree from the Federal government in 2022.
